How film simulation recipes work
A film simulation recipe is a set of in-camera settings that gives your photos a look straight out of camera. Jepex reads the recipe behind any photo you shot, matches it to known recipes, and lets you create and share your own. Recipes stay free, forever.

What a recipe is
What is a film simulation recipe?
A set of in-camera settings (film simulation, grain, Color Chrome, white balance and its shift, dynamic range, tone, sharpness, noise reduction, clarity) that your camera renders into the JPEG as you shoot. On a Ricoh GR, a recipe starts from an Image Control instead of a film simulation.
Recipes vs filters or presets: what’s the difference?
A filter or preset is a transformation applied after capture. A recipe is a set of in-camera parameters (film simulation, grain, color chrome, white balance, dynamic range, tone curve) that the camera renders before the JPEG is written.
Jepex catalogs and matches the latter. The community is sensitive to the distinction; we are too.
The recipe behind a photo
How does Jepex find the recipe behind a photo?
Jepex reads the settings your camera wrote into the photo (film simulation or Image Control, grain, Color Chrome, white balance and its shift, dynamic range, tone, sharpness, noise reduction, clarity) and ranks the recipes that match, each with a match percentage. On the web, the photo is read in your browser and never leaves your device.
Will a recipe work on my camera?
Each recipe lists the sensor it needs, because newer film simulations and settings exist only on newer sensors. Jepex reads your camera’s sensor generation from its photos and marks the recipes it can render; on the web, the camera filter shows only those.
Making and sharing recipes
Can I publish my own recipes?
Yes. Create a recipe in the full settings editor, or start from the settings in one of your photos, then publish it with your name on it. Every published recipe gets its own page on the web, and every author a public profile with their recipes.
How do I share a recipe?
Every published recipe has its own page on the web to link to, and any recipe can be shared as a card in 10 styles and 3 color themes, sized for posts and stories.
Are recipes free?
Yes. Recipes stay free, forever: browse, match, favorite, create, and publish without limits, on every platform including the web. Favoriting, creating, and publishing need a free account.
Recipes in your camera
Can I send a recipe to my camera?
Soon. Jepex will send any recipe to a custom slot on your Fujifilm over USB, free, on the Mac first.
